Sting
Promoted by Live Nation and produced by RZO Entertainment, Corporation. Band: Dominic Burns, Vinnie Colaiuta, Rufus Burns, Jo Lawry, Peter Tickell. Examined November. 28, 2011
Undertaking a powerful but half-hearted Police reunion tour and forays into symphonic and Renaissance music, Sting visited the basic principles on his properly named To Bass tour. Playing the initial of three offered-out shows within the Wiltern Theatre, Sting skillfully wielded his electric bass guitar with the evening, the instrument he acquired just like a schoolboy in northern England that eventually skyrocketed him to fame while using Police. It seems a suitable time for your star revisit his roots, getting just celebrated his 60th birthday and released a retrospective box set marking his 25th anniversary just like a solo artist. Searching lithe and lean just like a guy half his age, Sting made an appearance completely comfortable leading his able five-piece band through re-imagined versions of numerous familiar tunes. Beginning off while using crowd-pleaser "All This Time Around Around" and segueing to the Police favorite "Every Little Factor She Does is Miracle," it looked as though it might be a finest hits evening, but Sting soon delved much much deeper into his catalog, yanking out "Demolition Guy" and "I Hung My ThoughtsInch additionally to many tunes that never handled to obtain onto commercial radio. Standing center stage with dramatic white-colored lights lighting him formerly pointed out and below, Sting frequently lapsed into storytelling mode, attempting to show everyone else his inspiration for a lot of tunes, just like a fox that stole chickens from his farm ("Finish of the sportInch) together with a psychic vehicle crook who could intuit the nuances of his victims' lives ("Stolen Vehicle"). It cannot be described as a Sting show without addressing the difficulties and exaltations of love, so during the time of "Fortress Around Your Heart" as well as the country-tinged "Love Is Much More effective Than Justice," the singer distributed relationship advice online online culled from decades of marriage, encouraging everybody else to risk everything for love. Despite his tales, Sting still maintained a regal distance from his fans throughout a lot of the evening. Despite the fact that vital elements with an incredible show were in place a captivating singer together with hits whose voice hasn't reduced as we age, a superb backing band, together with an area filled with adoring fans the performance did not possess a particular magical quality. Possibly it absolutely was too easy an outing for just about any guy who is able to command arenas and very easily transition from rock to jazz to country and again. Sting usually takes a web page using their own book, infusing his entire performance while using closeness he brought to his third encore, which saw him standing alone along with his protection lower playing only an guitar as his voice rung by helping cover their the beloved, heartbreaking lyrics to "Message In The Bottle." Five Reasons You Need To See 'The Muppets'
It's time to play the music! It's time to light the lights! It's time to meet the Muppets at uh "The Muppets," hitting theaters today! Watch the "Muppets" trailer! Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and the rest of their delightfully bizarre pals are back in action at long last with this week's release of "The Muppets," directed by James Bobin and starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper and an unstoppable array of celebrity cameos. Sporting a 100% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, "Muppets" absolutely deserves all of the credit it's been getting in the past few days and weeks. If you have any fondness at all in your hearts for these wonderful characters, there's no excuse for you to skip out on this one for longtime fans and new ones alike, "The Muppets" is as close to a perfect family film as it gets. Check out five reasons to see the movie after the jump. Forgetting "Sarah Marshall" Segel and co-writer Nicholas Stoller's love and affection for all things "Muppets" is very clearly on display in this movie. The charming, witty writing they're best known for is all over "The Muppets," but gone is the raunchy attitude, the crude dialogue and, most importantly, Segel's practically obligatory nude scenes. In fact, I was surprised at just how much Segel stayed out of the Muppets' way, not just as a writer, but also as an actor. Stoller and Segel go out of their way to highlight who the real stars of "The Muppets" are supposed to be. Speaking of the stars... Meet Walter The newest addition to "The Muppets" gang is Walter, the world's biggest Muppets fan and the viewpoint character of the film. Walter's journey is to decide whether or not he's man or Muppet more on that in a second and every minute we spend with him on his adventure is well worth the price of admission. He's excellently conceived, brimming with an infectious enthusiasm about spending time with Kermit, Gonzo, Fozzy and all of his other favorite heroes that the folks at home can't help but share. Nick Stoller explains the origins of Walter! Muppets, Men And Music The music in "The Muppets" is fantastic, as is always the case when Kermit and pals grace the big or small screens. Credit on this one goes largely to Flight of the Conchords' Bret McKenzie, who served as music supervisor on the film and brought us unforgettable tunes like "Life's A Happy Song," "Pictures in My Head" and the sure-to-be Oscar-nominated "Man or Muppet." The odds of you leaving the theater without any number of these memorable numbers stuck in your head are very, very slim. Chris Cooper Raps You heard me. They're Back! Really, what more is there to say? "The Muppets" have been gone for far too long, and this perfect little movie more than emphasizes how much they've been missed. We need these guys in our lives I do, at least. So if you're a fan of awesome things and you don't want to break my heart, you'll put your hard-earned easy-being green on the line and pay "The Muppets" a visit this holiday weekend. It's my favorite movie of the year it just might be yours as well! Watch Stoller explain what was cut out of the "Muppets"! Are you checking out "The Muppets" this weekend? Netflix Shares Face A Tough Market Amid Questions About $400M Refinancing
In early trading Netflix shares are down about 3.3% from yesterday’s $74.47 close– and flirting with the possibility of ending the day ata new 52-week low.Investors are still trying to make sense of last night’sannouncement that it struck two deals to raise $400M with a warningthat it expects a net loss in 2012, a change from its previous guidance of “several quarters” of losses. The company agreed to sell $200M in common stock, at $70 a share, to accounts managed by T. Rowe Price Associates in addition to its$200M convertible notes offer to Technology Crossover Ventures. With the deals “we have strengthened our balance sheet and remain focused on growing our streaming subscriptions and returning to global profitability after our launch of the U.K. in 2012,” CFO David Wells said. But several analysts say that they’re pessimistic: Caris & Co’s David Miller lowered his price target to $59 from $77 since Netflix “is sending the rhetorical signal to the Street that the effects of its Q3 public relations nightmare have not stemmed subscriber defections, at least not in the near term.” Lazard Capital Markets’ Barton Crockett says his earnings forecast is under review adding that the company’s “recent history of quick outlook changes suggests reason to be skeptical.” Janney Capital Markets’ Tony Wible questions Netflix’s decision to raise capital just after it spent hundreds of millions of dollars to repurchase its shares. That “reinforces our view that (Netflix) has been buying stock to offset the dilution from its large issuance of equity to its management team, which has aggressively sold the stock with many options priced as low at $1.50 per share.” Susquehanna Financial Group’s Vasily Karasyov says that analysts’ earnings forecasts “will have to come down.”But Credit Suisse’s John Blackledge was a lonely bull, saying that the refinancing “strengthens (Netflix’s) balance sheet and improves its financial flexibility”although itprobably won’t be usedto finance additional content deals.

Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester: I Want the Blair and Dan Relationship to Play Out
Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester While Gossip Girl fans may be torn between who they want Blair to be with, Leighton Meester is not. "The one relationship I'd love to play out is Blair and Dan," she told TVGuide.com at the show's 100th episode party Saturday night. Penn Badgley (Dan) said: "I like the Blair [story line] because it's the most exciting for Dan as a person." See photos from Gossip Girl Although it was a surprise to see the Queen Bee and Lonely Boy, who often butted heads, start to like each other, executive producer Josh Safran said the pairing has been likely to happen since the beginning. "I wrote the first scene with them together in Season 1 ... and we knew at that moment there was something there," he said. Gossip Girl boss Josh Safran: Blair has chosen her guy, L.A. is the perfect place for Serena But Blair and Dan getting together has a few major hitches, namely Blair's impending wedding to Prince Louis - and a baby on the way. On Monday's episode (8/7c, CW) Blair continues preparing for the big day with her bridal shower. And producers said a wedding will happen (or at least partly) when the 100th episode airs Jan. 30. "She does walk down the aisle," said Margaret Colin, who plays Blair's mom. Added Blake Lively: "We shot a big dance sequence." So, while it seems there's a ceremony and a reception, Safran said it could all a dream. While an enduring story line since the first season has been the Blair-and-Chuck relationship, Meester adds that she's OK with their current status. "Her and Chuck have had ups and downs and as much as everyone loves them together, I think them having time apart has actually helped them grow," she said. Watch full episodes of Gossip Girl in our Online Video Guide But, "Chair" fans, don't be alarmed yet. Executive producer Stephanie Savage told us: "We have some amazing Chuck-and-Blair scenes coming up in the next couple of episodes.. The Chuck-and-Blair relationship is really fun and something that wasn't in the books, but came out of Leighton and Ed [Westwick]'s chemistry." Whether you want Blair to be with Chuck or Dan (does anyone want her with the Prince?), creator Josh Schwartz has a solution. "There's only one way to satisfy all those people," he said. "Threesome." Who do you want Blair to be with?

Disney Posts 30 Percent Boost in Quarterly Net Income As Theme Parks Soar
The Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it notched a 30 percent rise in net income to $1.25 billion on revenue that rose 7 percent to $10.43 in its fiscal fourth quarter, matching expectations on the top line. On a per-share basis, Disney posted 58 cents in profit while Wall Street analysts had predicted 55 cents. In the same quarter a year ago, Disney reported a profit of 43 cents per share. Studio entertainment revenue sunk 8 percent, while all other segments posted rising revenue on the quarter. The studio, though, recorded a respectable 13 percent rise in operating income. Disney blamed strong comparisons for sinking studio revenue, as Cars 2, Tangled, Thor, Captain America and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides didn't measure up to last year's Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Iron Man 2 and Princess and the Frog. With a 33 percent gain, Disney's parks and resorts segment scored the biggest improvement in operating income due to the inclusion of the Disney Dream cruise ship and higher ticket prices at the parks, where customers also spent more on food and merchandise. Disney shares rose 2.5 percent during the regular session Thursday to $34.64 and advanced another 2.6 percent in after-hours trading. Disney CEO Bob Iger and other top executives will discuss the earnings in a conference call later today, where some are expecting at least one of the analysts on the call to ask for an update on the suddenly controversial Oscar telecast that airs on Disney's ABC network in February. Disney's earnings wrapped up the season for the conglomerates. Before the opening bell on Thursday, Viacom reported better-than-expected quarterly financials, sending its stock 5 percent higher on the day. On the Scene: Conan O'Brien's Return to New York City
Jimmy Fallon and Conan O'Brien To celebrate his one-year anniversary on TBS, Conan O'Brien brought his late-night show to NY for his first broadcast from the Big Apple since he left Late Night in early 2009. And nearly 3,000 screaming fans were on hand at the Beacon Theater to give him a warm welcome. Conan O'Brien looks back on his big year "I have not heard applause like that since they announced I was leaving NY," O'Brien joked at the top of his monologue. O'Brien then turned his attention to the members of the audience, many of whom were dressed in Halloween costumes. Not surprisingly, more than a few fans were dressed as O'Brien. "I see a lot of Conan costumes," he said. "Hey, at least you can take yours off! I'm trapped in this!" O'Brien, who now tapes Conan in Los Angeles, continually repeated his love of NY City, and both of the episode's pre-taped bits celebrated the city. In the first, O'Brien spent the day working as a delivery boy at a Chinese restaurant with mixed results. His first delivery customer refused to accept food from him for fear of being on camera. Later, Conan couldn't find the address he was delivering to, so he gave the food away to people on the street. (He then replaced the takeout food that he'd given away with Thai soup, but the customers quickly forgave their famous delivery boy.) Conan O'Brien to officiate gay wedding on TV A second pre-taped bit saw O'Brien donning a disguise in order to visit some of his old friends at NBC without making it "too awkward." So, with the aid of a fake mustache and some sunglasses (Conan first remarked that he looked like a "hipster pedophile" and later the Unabomber), he blended into the audience at the Today Show in Rockefeller center. The NY City love continued with a battle to the death between the Empire State Building and a Scientology book store - aka "the best building L.A. could come up with." (The Empire State Building easily won.) Then NY City Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned up to administer a NY citizenship test. Sample question: What's Derek Jeter's greatest accomplishment? Conan's (correct) answer: Minka Kelly. Check out photos of O'Brien O'Brien's first guest of the week was Jimmy Fallon, who succeeded O'Brien as the host of Late Night. Fallon offered up a "winning" impression of Charlie Sheen, and took a few moments to plug his new Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor, which the audience sampled after the show. (Sadly, this reporter was a little late to the sample line, but it sounds delicious.) Both Fallon and musician/comedian Reggie Watts, who opened for Conan during his nationwide tour last year, performed rousing musical numbers. Watts did a fitting rendition of "The Boys Are Back in Town" while Fallon performed a "Halloween Song" that was really a celebration of America that included a huge American flag and red-white-and-blue-clad baton twirlers. During some commercial breaks, O'Brien ventured out into the audience to sign autographs, pose for pictures and even give out a few hugs. During others, he danced around the stage and pretended to box announcer/sidekick Andy Richter. At one point late in the show, O'Brien removed his jacket to cool off, only to discover some noticeable pit stains. He turned to share his embarrassment with the audience, but the Team Coco crowd simply roared with more applause. Only in NY. Conan airs weeknights at 11/10c on TBS. What did you think of O'Brien's fist show back in the Big Apple?
